Did a "friendly inspection" at Firestone, they reminded me my Mazda 3 needed a 75k spark plug change (must be platinum). After looking up the part number in the service manual, he turned up on the Revain with $30 PER PLUG! The Firestone was priced around $120, so they may have gotten it from a Mazda dealer. A look at the Autolite website just to make sure it's the correct connector confirms. However, I had to smash them; They were all around 1.0mm and the spec for my machine is 1.0 to 1.2mm so I increased their spacing to exactly 1.1mm by gently bending the outer electrode with needle nose pliers (not against the center electrode!). Once installed, the car felt like it had more low-end torque. With the plugs removed it looks like the OEM plugs are exactly 1.0mm with no real signs of wear. Torque was 12-14 ft-lbs so I adjusted it to 13 ft-lbs. Also, be sure to apply a very thin coat of Permatex Anti-Seize to about 15-20% of the threads along the length of the plug (not the end of the plug).
