As a photographer/storm chaser, I sometimes have to leave my gear (several thousand dollars worth) in the car when I don't feel like it. While everything is insured I wouldn't want to go back to find it smashed and confiscated and having to worry about replacing it. So this year I bought Pelican cases (which are super strong) and this cable and some padlocks. He's really fat! I route this cable around the factory seat mounts (they are designed to withstand impact loads) and then insert the ends into the locks that I install on the Pelican covers. Of course, if someone had enough time and could make enough noise, they could either cut the cable, or the locks, or the location of the lock on the suitcases. But the goal here is to avoid bumps and grabs when I NEED to leave the gear when going to the store or similar. I think it will work great for this scenario and give me peace of mind. It's about making it harder for someone to pick up your stuff so they can move on to the next car.
