Review on πŸͺ’ Wooden Shave Brush and Razor Stand for Men - Colonel Conk by Saundra Maybank

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It does what it's supposed to do but nothing special and could be better

Ordered with an Escali badger hair brush and a Merkur model 180 DE razor. Both approach him. Roof brush color and it's a close match if that's what you choose. When it comes to things like this, I pay more attention to functionality than to looks. The stand is made in Taiwan, the fit and finish is what you would expect from a woodworking freshman at the end of a four year course. The main base is simply cut on a band saw and the end slope at the bottom is uneven. Where the design was drawn on an area there is still a red line under the varnish so you can't erase it. The part of the brush hanger where it connects appears to have been made in multiple passes. above the blade as a section protrudes slightly leaving a gap between the hanging insert and the base. It was all glued together, I believe, with waterproof glue. The spray used isn't even and doesn't really add shine or shine to it. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't swell a bit since it's in the tub = steam = humidity as the finish doesn't seem to protect it that well. I take it to my wood shop and apply a coat of paste wax to it, which protects it, makes any waterdrops that get on it just fizz, but doesn't penetrate the grain of the wood itself, giving it a more attractive shine. Just use this as a template and assemble your own from a nicer burl wood this fall if time permits. The only reason I didn't do it now was because I didn't have time to go to the shop and do it. That means you're paying for the name, not the quality. To be honest I would have expected this to only cost a few bucks given the fit and finish. I gave it 3 stars simply because it arrived quickly (Amazon Prime) and it looks like it will do the job. I would give it 2.5 but half a star is not an option.

Pros
  • Hardwood rot proof
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
