How I regret buying this brand!

I bought one of these and when it appeared on the platform it was hanging out. I notified Foxalien about Revain and was able to exchange the broken device for another device. When he arrived, his portal was also weakened. I contacted the previously helpful service department but never received a response from them. So much for support. I was able to loosen the screws so I could move the Z-rails just enough that the spindle couldn't move. I don't know if that's good enough. I haven't cut anything worth mentioning yet. I then tried the offline controller, could move objects and actually engrave the Foxalien onto the included piece of MDF. Then I tried to manage my Linux laptop (Ubuntu 20.04) and the router with UGS. I couldn't get either Classic or Platform to manage my router, but this was new territory for me, so I decided to move the device into my office and hook it up to my desktop system. Nothing. I was able to get a Grbl 1.1h prompt on startup, but got no command response from either UGS or Lightburn. As a last resort I tried Putty just to see if the basic communication works. nope Nada on returning from the router's controller.Net: A piece of junk. Unfortunately the return window is closed. My next step is take out the controller board and replace it with a generic GRBL controller. USB interface and serial connections with AT328P. After a bit of tracking, thanks to Foxalien's lack of helpful documentation, I was able to determine that one of the vias on the PCB was exposed. I soldered a jumper to bypass it and finally got the router's USB control. Hoping this was the last issue, it didn't take long for me to discover that the portal was worse than I expected. As I moved the Z-axis up and down under computer control, I could literally watch the tip of the cutter wobble more than a millimeter! I'm done with this setup! Like I said, crap. FWIW, I have built many CNC systems including routers, Laser, plasma cutter, cutting plotter and 3D printer. I distinguish a good system from junk. I would not recommend this system. I also built another manufacturer's CNC 3018 system and although I had a few issues, the other company's service department was top notch in helping me and solving my problems. I would call another company smart! Maybe even a saint.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
