This filter works great and is a great value. I'm new to canister filters but this was easy to figure out. The instructions aren't the best, but if you don't understand them, don't buy an aquarium. In other words, it's very straight forward. There were no leaks, the pump has been running for 4 days and there are no problems. It seems easier to get started if I can get a natural flow of water out of the primer rather than pre-filling the canister by flooding it with water and pumping the water as it should in a minute or two. I vented it and waited for the suction to kick in naturally due to gravity and when it was full I plugged it in and after a few minutes it was working with all the air out of the lines (by tipping back and forth of course) . As I said, the first external filter and I am completely satisfied with it. I'll probably order another at the next sale so I have a spare just in case. The only thing others have said is that the plastic parts seem cheap and break easily, but I always seem to overpower and break things, especially cheap plastic. Nothing broke during assembly and everything is perfect. Trust me, if he survived in my meaty hands, he has a decent amount of power. Comes from someone who ripped off several doorknobs simply by opening them and breaking the faucets that turn on the water. Very happy with this purchase.
