Review on Defender Security 10827 Door Reinforcement by John Chembola

We bought this item not so much to keep people out as to...keep people in. So you see we have an adventurous two year old with the spirit of Indiana Jones. It climbs, clambers, jumps, and on rare occasions even makes daring escapes from native logs, arrows, and large boulders. a bolt he was too small to reach. After a few months and a lot of brawndo, he's finally achieved his longtime goal of being big enough to open and close a door on his own. Because we love it and don't want it completely disappearing from the house for another 16 years or so, we bought this smooth action reinforced lock to keep it in check and I love it. The satin nickel finish matches our door handle and hardware perfectly, and the sleek design of this product looks great on the door frame. Installation took about 20 minutes from start to finish. The instructions were clear and concise, but if you plan to use the 3" screws provided, I have to say that pre-measuring and drilling pilot holes is a must! You can most likely install this lock with a screwdriver if you use smaller screws, but you'll save yourself a headache (and sore hands!) with a drill. The only downside I've encountered so far. The fact of the matter is that my wife kept accidentally locking me at home. I particularly remember a time when I was working outside and remembered the game was on; I rushed back to the house to check the score - and ended up banging my head on the door at relatively high speed, luckily my team won (so it was totally/mostly worth it)! This event also served as a sort of unplanned, unintentional stress test for the product, and I'm glad the door didn't budge an inch. As for cleanliness, we simply use a damp cloth to keep the lock as good as new. The back of the cork is black rubber (pictured) and while some of this residue sometimes ends up on the door, it wipes off easily and doesn't get dirty. All in all, whether you want to keep the bad guys or the good guys, I think this is a great buy!
