It took me about 35 minutes from when I opened up the box until I had skis on the car. About 25 minutes of the install was unpacking the pieces and assembling them - I started this process outside by the car, but discovered that the first several steps were simply assembling the hardware and I went back indoors for that.After it was put together, it took me about another 10 minutes to install this on my existing roof rack. I have a Yakima RoundBar rack and this fit just fine. It's easy to put skis in and out of the rack and the rack locks very easily. Although the locks would deter any theft of skis or snowboards from the rack, it is possible to remove the entire ski rack (with whatever is in it) from the roof without unlocking it. I think the likelihood of that happening is low, but is something to consider if not being able to remove the rack without keys is important to you.
