I ran a 3-wire circuit (red, black, white, with hotspots sharing the white neutral) in my garden and was planning to use a 2-socket GFCI for protection. I also use 3 wires to power additional outlets. Well it won't work after thinking about it and all the wires were already in place. You cannot share the neutral wire on regular outlets powered by a GFCI protected outlet. Normal auxiliary outlets will cause an imbalance in the neutral wire, which will trip the GFCI outlets. So I put this switch in instead and used regular outlets everywhere. This fixed my wiring error but at an additional cost as this switch is much more expensive than a pair of GFCI sockets.
