My cats love the taste hence 4 stars for the taste. The low rating is due to the recent changes I've noticed at Natural Balance and I want everyone with a dog or cat to know about this. 6 or years (since 2012 or 2013) This was and still is 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a hypoallergenic prescription diet food that my vet wanted me to buy for my cats, 1 of whom has a severe food allergy . And Dick Van Patton is behind this? Excellent! Until about 2019 we were all happy. Then I noticed that my 1 cat with allergies had mild symptoms again. Then I noticed those hard black "I don't know what" bits in the wet food jars and the color change to the dry version. It can't be trustworthy food, can it? no I then took my other non-allergic cat to a groomer who told me that my cat food contained too much sugar due to the appearance of my cat's skin and coat. My groomer said to check my cat food company because these smaller, trusted companies are bought by companies that don't have a particularly trusted pet food business as it's poorly regulated. Oh, the groomer must be one of those cuckoo people. So I researched that and found that SMUCKERS, the sugar-laden jam company, became one of these giant, profit-blind corporations and acquired Natural Balance. The time of purchase and recent changes are the same. So I stopped buying this and have started feeding my cats plain boiled turkey wet food while testing different brands of products. The one I go with was recommended by my groomer, American Journey. It's a grain-free but unrestricted ingredient and my cats still feel better. So now I'm waiting to test the wet food version. I'll just end up making my own (you must have a very accurate vet approved nutritional prescription and supplements) when this company is also being bought out by giant for-profit monsters. of the reasons why, like my hairdresser, I'm one of those hippie cuckoos that I initially underestimated.
