Review on 🖨️ Sculpto PLA: Advanced 3D Printer Filament for Additive Manufacturing by Jason Paige

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Looks good, easy to print but very expensive.

This shiny filament gives your 3D printed objects a unique look without painting or other post-processing. The tiny glitter particles form beautiful speckles and sparkle slightly as they catch the light. The effect is difficult to convey in words or on camera, but it looks great. Printing with this filament wasn't much different than working with any other PLA spool. Sculpto recommends a nozzle temperature between 190-210°C and I've had the best results right in the middle at 200°C. I've also tried printing at higher temperatures, but layer adhesion actually deteriorated (unlike most PLAs) when I went beyond the recommended temperature range. I only have a few bad things to say about this thread. First, it's way more expensive than it should be. At the time of this review, this 0.5kg spool is almost double the price of most other brands' 1.0kg offerings. While you might expect some premium for the glitter, it's too much. Another problem is that Sculpto does not vacuum this thread to protect it from moisture. Although the roll contains some desiccant, the outer packaging is thin, perforated, heat-shrinkable plastic. Many other filament manufacturers use high-performance vacuum bags, so it's disappointing that Sculpto skimped on that (especially considering the premium price point). For best results, you may need to dry this thread before use. Overall I give her four stars. The glitter looks great, the filament prints with no problems, but the price is too high and the product needs better protection from moisture.
