Review on πŸ”ͺ Lyman 7822204 Carbide Cutter Tool by Marco Mooney

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The only way to fly.

My original die head was worn out so I ordered some new standard die heads and cut about 1000 cases of various calibers. Even with new heads, I find it difficult to remove the pilot from each case after trimming. The brass is not cut cleanly and some of it is flattened and bunched inside and outside of the neck which takes a lot of effort for me to remove the pilot. Even after using my third new cutting head, it became more and more difficult. Trimming the case became a frustrating task of getting the pilot out of the case every time, no matter which of the many calibers I trimmed. I decided to buy a carbide cutter hoping that pruning wouldn't be such a terrible task. I have just carved about 100 30-30W cases with carbide and am very satisfied. The cutter is very fast, it actually cuts off excess brass cleanly with little effort and without the pilot getting caught in the case necks. I haven't used it long enough to give it 5 stars but I'm very happy with the performance of the cutting head. If, like me, you hate trimming, especially when the pilots get stuck, try a carbide cutter. I liken it to using carbide sizing dies versus old steel and the associated greasing and cleaning of greasy, dirty cases. .
