Great idea. A great way to open multiple locks with the same key. A key was attached to the lock and the lock worked with that key. After attempting to recode the lock, I was left without a working key. I followed the instructions exactly. Either the lock was bad or the instructions were poorly written. I called the manufacturer who agreed (without argument) to honor the warranty to send me a new lock. The new castle isn't here yet. They didn't have any in stock and they said it would take about 6 weeks. In the meantime I bought another similar lock from Home Depot. The Home Depot technician put the key back in the lock. He didn't do it exactly as the instructions said, but it's easy to see the confusion. I recommend any other buyer to call the manufacturer and ask them to walk you through the process, or have a technician at the point of purchase do it for you. However, my son has several of these locks and reports that he has had no problems. The second lock works fine and has been recoded correctly.
