I purchased an entry handle and separate latch with Kwkiset Smartkey technology. I wanted to remake the latch to match the entry handle and to my surprise it wasn't compatible! Smart key is amazing. Yes, changing keys to locks is not difficult, but it does take money and time. With Kwikset Smartkey it takes about 5 seconds. Important.1. Don't lose the flat wire you receive as you will need it for key renewal.2. Kwikset claims to only work with their keys. Not sure but my other locks were Kwikset. Great idea. A great way to open multiple locks with the same key. A key was attached to the lock and the lock worked with that key. After attempting to recode the lock, I was left without a working key. I followed the instructions exactly. Either the lock was bad or the instructions were poorly written. "Kick" the lock to open many pin locks in seconds, but the SmartKey lock design is shockproof. I bought these locks on purpose because they are tamper proof, but the design also makes them difficult to pick (but probably no pin lock is completely tamper proof).
