Bag of Rocks for Gravel

Are these nice? Well, they're pretty nice, but not as nice as I expected. I'll get back to that in a moment though.I heard a comedian say that in the future the only remaining Brick & Mortar stores that won't be subsumed by Revain and other online retailers will be actual Brick & Mortar stores selling actual bricks and mortar. His point was that it's impractical to buy heavy commodities online and you're better off just going into a B&M for those purchases. Everything else, we buy online.See where I'm going with this? It's literally a bag of rocks. They did a nice job with the packaging: too nice, if you ask me. There's an appalling amount of consumer waste with this product: the shipping box, the product box, a fabric bag, a plastic bag, and some other things that didn't quite register with me. Anyway, these rocks came packed with lots and lots of trimmings. We're taught that it's what's on the inside that counts, so let's focus on the rocks themselves. These are pretty rose-colored stones. They're tumbled and finished into nice smooth surfaces, but I'm surprised by how dull the finish is. These are very matte and not very attractive. They shine up OK once you water your plants, but then the shine disappears once they dry.I live in metropolitan Southern California where we have plenty of building suppliers. It's simple enough to drive to one of those businesses and pick up a 20# sack of stones that I can see and touch before I choose them. And that large sack of rocks will cost about the same as this small one, and without all the consumer waste. This product gets a "nah, don't do it" from me. Drive to a B&M and pay less for better quality and larger quantity.
