Review on Hatchbox Brown PLA Filament For Precise 3D Printing - 1KG Spool With +/- 0.03Mm Accuracy by Dylan Hohd

My "Go To " PLA good for me

I've been 3D printing for over a year now. I had heard before I got into printing that Hatchbox was one of the better brands. I used it in the beginning, but then COVID hit, printer sales skyrocketed, and their filament production shut down. I started trying other brands out to see if there might be something better or at least as good as Hatchbox. Now that they have their production issues sorted out, I'm back to Hatchbox and will probably stick with it as much as possible. I have far fewer issues and much better prints with Hatchbox. Here's what I like:1) It doesn't clog, string, or skip. I went through nearly 1/4 of a spool of some of the other brands just trying to get the settings dialed in. Hatchbox just seems to work and work with a wider range of settings. Some of the others are extremely finicky.2) I much prefer the finish of Hatchbox. It comes out as a very smooth matte finish. It's not dull, but it's not glossy either. Some of the others come out much shinier, but that shinier finish seems to be inconsistent. This is especially visible with bigger prints. What I don't like:1) The price has gone up. It used to be under 20 bucks. Now it's up to about 25. I'm not thrilled about that, but I'm not wasting prints like I do with some of the others. It's worth it to me to spend a little more and not waste so much filament and (especially) time on failed prints.

Pros
  • The filament sticks well to the print bed, requiring minimal use of adhesive tapes or sprays
Cons
  • Can produce noticeable shrinkage during cooling
