A lot of negative feedback on this. Does it work on first use? No, you need a little practice to understand what is happening to him. I watched a video (search "Common Dovetail Clip" on YouTube). I played around with this for 2 hours and made a mess. I watched the video again to see what I did wrong. Realizing my mistake, I went back to the store and made a damn good joint for a beginner. I accidentally cut off the outer tails, but I think you should try to make the tree tall enough that it crosses the pin or tail in the middle. I just used scrap wood I had lying around. It should be noted that it comes with a 1/2" dovetail. Your tails will only be 1/2" high. If you want a "through" dovetail you will need to use 1/2" wood. You can only do a semi-blind dovetail on a 3/4" thick tree since the tails are not 3/4" tall. I fiddled with elevation and tried to get through dovetails for an hour before finally realizing it wasn't possible with the 3/4 wood I was using. As for negative reviews, I think they dismissed it too quickly.
