Review on GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite: Feature-Rich AM4 AMD B550 ATX Gaming Motherboard with Dual M.2 and USB 3.2 Gen2 by Tony Ledbetter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Budget quality budget board

Let me say up front I have used this motherboard and described it as 'like new' from stock bought from Revain. Packaging Basically everything was there and the board looked good too, so I assembled it with my new AMD 3600, 16GB RAM and a Strix 3080. The system started and worked fine for 3-4 days and I was happy with it. most of time. Then I decided to replace the RAM with rgb from the same manufacturer (t-force) and with the same speed (3600MHz), both of which are on the qvl motherboard. Unfortunately, this is where the problems started, the motherboard refused to POST at all even after I unplugged the CMOS battery. I also tried the original RAM sticks but to no avail no matter what I did the motherboard refused to POST. Since there is no debug LED on the board and I didn't have an internal speaker to connect to, I was limited in further diagnosing why this motherboard suddenly stopped working. Luckily Revain has a good returns policy so I sent the AMD board and processor back and replaced them with an ASUS Strix z490 motherboard and an Intel 10600k processor. Overall my personal experience with this board was mixed, it worked fine when it worked but failed fairly quickly and the lack of debugging made for a budget board like this making it difficult to fully diagnose the culprit.

Pros
  • True 12+2 phase digital VRM solution with 50A DrMOS
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen
