Just replaced the coils in my mk6 GTI. Managed to get 100,000 miles from the originals but one eventually gave up when the boost kicked in. I'm not sure I can expect 100,000 of them, but we'll see. It doesn't "need" any tools, but a flathead screwdriver will help with clipping and removing old coils. SERIOUSLY slide in those new coils and plug the connectors back in and that's it. For about a month I thought my gearbox (dsg) was going haywire, but it seems to have just been a quick misfire on power upshifts. I'll let you know if these roles give me any trouble, but so far I'm happy.
