At some point they must have changed the formula and now it smells awful. I used it in my vertical carpet cleaner. For two weeks I continued to be paranoid about the smell of urine in the living room. I was almost ready to rip out the carpet. I ended up buying a black light flashlight to look for old urine stains that I didn't catch. The carpet was mostly clean apart from a recurring spot of dog poo. That's when I realized the smell was cleaner, not dog urine. After washing the carpet again with a different cleaner, the smell of the old cleaner is very faint. I hope it goes away completely after a few washes. You can probably dilute it and use it in a spray bottle to pre-treat stains, but I wouldn't recommend using it in a carpet cleaner at all.
