Review on πŸ”₯ Camco Hot Water Hybrid Heat Kit: Convert 6-Gallon RV LP Gas Water Heater to 120V Electricity for Propane Conservation (11673) by Ryan Richards

Water heaters did not disappoint

It works very well. It's great not having to burn propane when I'm hooked up at a campground or using a guest RV at my home. A few things to note when installing: The thermostatic block that you attach to the side of your tank that allows you to set the temperature has a built in safety shut off if it senses the tank is getting hotter than intended. That's great, but if you're unplugged and you're heating your tank with propane, and that causes the water to get hotter than the hybrid heating setting you've set, that certainty kicks in and the next time you try to heat with electricity, it won't function. You need to push back the safety button (on the top of the thermostatic unit). When I installed mine I also drilled a hole for the wires to insert and then used silicone to seal the hole. I didn't think to leave enough slack in the wires to ensure I could unscrew and remove the sensor if/if I ever wanted to drain the tank (for wintering, etc.). Luckily, as it turns out, I left just enough to barely pull the probe out without having to cut all the silicone and free the wires. Make sure you think about this ahead of time and make sure anything you do to secure or seal the wiring leaves enough slack for the device to be removed if necessary.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • Minor issues
