The original pocket hole version of this Kreg carpenter's screw is definitely a high quality fastener. Is it possible to get by with inferior versions? Probably. But for my money, I'll spend an extra dollar not to worry about a blunt tip or a deformed power head. Square head screws may be less of a problem, but I often have problems when working with cheaper Phillips head screws. Anyway, I don't want to mess around with screws so I'll stick with them. I've made probably 150 different items for the home and workshop.
