Review on Baofeng Tri Power 136 174MHz 400 520MHz Portable by Dragan Nelson

Just got my UV-82 Tri-Power. Physically it is identical to my old UV-82HP in every way (even the batteries and accessories are identical and interchangeable). But inside under the battery it says it's UV-82 rated at 8 watts. From the factory it has 3 power levels: low, medium and high. However, if you program it with CHIRP and use the CHIRP UV-82 program, you can only use the High and Low transmission options. I'm not sure what settings you get with the CHIRP High and Low option (1w and 4w or 1w and 8w or 4w and 8w). Instead of eliminating the power setting and getting an unknown transmit power, I programmed it anyway. with the program CHIRP UV-82HP. Success. It works great and has 3 power modes. So if it's a newer version of UV-82 as stated, it's been improved to look like HP. Or it could just be a repackaged UV-82HP. Either way, it's good value for money.
