no technical support for dehumidifier

I have just received this dehumidifier from Hogarlabs (mod PD11C) and it looks like a good enough product; works fine except for one. Well, maybe more than one. It would be nice if the nice user manual was written in English, but hey, we live in the modern world. Also, I was a little annoyed as I impatiently took it out of the box when I was told to leave it for 24 hours. before you turn it on so the oil can settle, but hey, it's better than screwing it up. What turns me on now is that after connecting the drain hose at the back, a very simple thing "what can go wrong", and running for a while, the water will flow into the water tank and the unit will shut down. until you empty the tank. Not a drop of water in the drain hose that I so carefully routed. So after going to the website www.Hogarlabs.com there was nothing there, after watching some youtube videos about the dehumidifier drain hoses (nothing to see about that) I emailed them at support@ hogarlabs.com as suggested in the literature and the letter came back. No number to call, nothing. If I don't get some satisfaction soon, this baby will be going back to mom. The next day: ok, puzzle solved and embarrassingly easy, as expected. I made another trip down to the basement last night to check it out and (not sure why the Hogarlabs customer service angel made me do it) decided to pull the hose washer by the drain hole where the drain hose connects and Surprise! No hose cleaner at all (ever tried using a garden hose or washing machine line without a hose cleaner? Bad.), but a factory-fitted thimble-shaped plastic rim that prevents water from running off. out of the connector and into the drain hose. An elegant trap for the ignorant consumer. Unknowing because no literature mentions that "the thing that looks like a washer on the drain hole is a plug that has to be removed to drain the water". So now everything works great. I am changing my overall rating to 4 stars. I would give the device itself, packaging and shipping 5 stars, they were great, but I would give the manual and customer support maybe 5 stars, just with a minus sign in front of it. It was terrible that they didn't exist. At least it works fine now and looks like it's worth what I paid for it once I get past the mental anguish. Hogarlabs, if you're still here, next time it's a slow day at the factory, maybe someone can chime in. or two via "Remove the hose washer-like plug before connecting the hose to the drain" in the owner's manual or on a sticker on the back of the machine or on a piece of paper included in the literature pack.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
