Review on Gigabyte GC CI22M_A CNVi Wireless AC Upgrade by Gene Evans

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Installed in Dell Optiplex 7070 SFF

I installed the GIGABYTE GC-CI22M_A CNVi WiFi Upgrade Kit on a Dell Optiplex 7070 SFF computer that has an M.2 2230 keyed motherboard socket for Intel CNVi -Support features. This adds fast 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth to the 7070. It works great. I compared WiFi connected to a FritzBox 7490 router with built-in wired Ethernet to transfer a large file from a server to a local PC. Wi-Fi over 802.11ac is very fast, but still only half the speed of wired Ethernet: - WiFi 802.11ac 5 GHz: 58 Mb/s - WiFi 802.11n 2.4 GHz: 13.6 Mb/s - Wired Gigabit Ethernet: 108 MB/s Installation Notes:- Windows 10 Pro 1903 recognized the adapter and the standard Windows 10 driver works fine. To install the SMA connectors on the back of the Optiplex 7070 SFF case, the SMA connector hole covers need to be pulled out (press on the bottom of the covers from the outside of the case). housing with a small screwdriver, then pry open the cover from the inside. - Neither the Optiplex 7070 nor the Gigabyte adapter comes with a 2230 M.2 mounting screw. You need an M2x3 screw. The external antenna is excellent, it has a magnetic base so it sits securely on the Optiplex box.
