Some need an antenna upgrade. I bought this for a 2008 12 year old Mac Pro 3.1 which I have updated to be compatible with the latest Mac OS (Catalina). It natively outperformed the built-in 802.11n chip, but suffered from occasional network dropouts and inconsistent speeds. The drop was a deal breaker and I was about to repack and send it back until I borrowed an external (4x) antenna array from my ASUS PCE-AC88 card that I use on my Windows computer. This time, it has entered the network with the faster 802.11AC protocol at a rate that has consistently been three times faster than the N protocol. Most importantly, I'm happy to report that during 6 Hours of heavy use gave NO DROPS . ! I wish I could give it 3.5 stars, although I'll round it up to 4 stars because it works right out of the box with macOS, is cheaper than alternatives, and delivers on its promise *AFTER* I've provided my own antenna. Unfortunately, the antenna array has to go back to the Windows PC. I'm looking for an alternative array and think I've settled on the following and will update this review after some testing. Eightwood Dual Band 2.4GHz 5GHz WiFi Antenna with 3 RP-SMA Magnetic Base for WiFi Router Mobile Hotspot PCI PCIe WiFi Card Desktop PC Motherboard External USB WiFi Adapter UPDATE: 08/13/2020 I have the Bought the above antenna from Eightwood and was very good, stable speeds with no crashes. I don't get the same maximum bandwidth as with the Asus PCE-AC88 antenna kit, although the last high-end kit cost me almost $200 a few years ago and was intended for gamers. I am very satisfied with the Eightwood antenna. UPDATE: 8/29/2020 It's been a little over two weeks since purchase and the card and antenna combo still has no issues with 24/7 usage. To give you a little background, my computer is in the basement and the Comcast WiFi router is on the 1st floor. There are 2 Comcast xFi modules (wireless mesh extenders) on the ground floor and one in the basement to allow the WiFi to cover the whole house. However, the basement pod is often the victim of significant interference (because it's located only a few feet from plumbing, air conditioning, water heaters, etc.βall items that Comcast should NOT place nearby), so connected the pod to the first floor. While this does result in a slight drop in throughput (from over 100Mbps to around 70Mbps+. This doesn't affect latency though!), it's an indication of how much range this antenna can give my 12 year old old Apple Mac Pro 3.1.
