I had a badly cracked spark plug and decided to replace them all although the rest was probably fine. My candles work in another machine so I can move them. I originally had Motorcraft OEM Finewires, which have a thin platinum wire that is actually thicker than the ground lug on this connector. You can use needle nose pliers or a hook tool that comes with a gap. Do not press on fragile ends. Gap can be on the ballpark, even Denso says so. These plugs are extremely effective. My 96 4.0 OHV Explorer can now chirp tires from a standing start and the idle is slightly improved over the OEM. It feels like all of this engine's low-end torque (its best feature) is fully realized! It has a carbon fiber LS rear end and you can tell both tires are trying to spin. I don't know the gas mileage yet but I'll comment when it gets better. Does that make it a hot rod? no Do you get a little more horsepower? May be. In the touring range, where there's more demand and torque converter lock-up, it feels a little smoother and more confident, like a much newer car. It's also very smooth at high speeds. Are the OEM plugs compatible? I'd say yes, but the idle seems better and it might even save some fuel. You won't go wrong either. Why are these connectors so good for this application? Because this engine uses a "Waste Spark" system. It's not a roll on a plug. Sometimes sparks come from the ground end and there is a fine wire platinum point there (original factory plugs were of two types, some had Pt on the electrode, some on ground). Also, it is a physical fact that a thin point concentrates the most voltage and provides the best spark. A thicker electrode will do the job, but this is near-ideal placement. proof? I have a program that monitors $06 mode and can even see single dropouts. I always had several handfuls from different cylinders on a trip. There can be 20-30 in total. Well, within spec. Currently? Maybe 1 or 2, sometimes 0. In the real world, this might be a slight improvement over the OEM, since the OEM is made of thin wire, albeit much thinner, and has two of them. These spark plugs are Original Equipment on many Lexus vehicles so you can't go wrong. These cars also have a 120,000-mile interval, so you can count on 100,000 or more, which could be worth something in and of itself.
