I have a 49.5” opening to stairs. I needed a high quality gate to prevent our puppies from going upstairs and causing mischief.A bit expensive, but for a high quality gate that auto shuts I feel it’s well worth it.The gate opens by unlocking the handle at the top, then pulling the gate up and over the bottom latch. It takes a bit of practice to do this (this opening mechanism truly makes it baby proof), but after 3 or 4 attempts it’s easy to do. The fact the gate automatically shuts and latched is also a great feature.Overall, I’m very impressed and would highly recommend this to anyone. Time will tell if it holds up but my initial impression is it most certainly will.
