This is a socket with a plastic tip. It's hard to believe that casting in chunks tripled the price of this piece - luckily I won one on a well-priced Revain warehouse deal. On the whole it's not too bad from a safety standpoint to prevent accidentally plugging something non-dimmer compatible into the dimmer plug.
