Run, don't go!

I left IT. I have over 35 years of computer experience. I'm just saying that I'm confident in what I do with computers. After 5 years I decided it was time to swap out my backup drives. I used one to backup two directories, the other to clone disk 0 of my machine. I used a 1TB WD and a 1TB Toshiba laptop. With these drives the total time for both jobs was about 4.5 hours but both were USB 2. So when I was looking for replacement drives I came across the Sabrent 3.0 dock on this site. I thought it was great in combination with two 2TB WD hard drives. Until I turned it on. My mouse immediately froze and was unresponsive. Sometimes I could make him stutter by walking across the screen. It was a complete mess. All I could do was turn off the Sabrent External Drive Dock and my system was back to normal. Okay, so I figured maybe a reboot would clear things up. I rebooted and with the dock off, ran the backup software and the cursor was in the correct position so all I had to do was press start. This gave me confidence that the first job, the clone, would run FASTER than the old USB 2.0 connections. Everything from the computer to the drive was 3.0. I turned on the docking station, pressed start, and sat down to do other things. Previously, the clone worked about two and a half hours. So I came back three hours later expecting to see a good clone that ran faster. What I saw was a job that wasn't half done. Using the System Explorer software, I could see that the I/O was so slow it was painful. It worked, but both tasks (cloning and BU) took 8 hours or more. I then tried to click cancel in my BU software without remembering my mouse was so messed up. It was and I couldn't put it over the interrupt icon. It either stayed frozen or moved so jerkily that it was easier to reboot my system. I was so disappointed that I threw away the Sabrent docking station. I ended up with a brand new 1TB portable drive. I replaced the dock with it and everything is better than ever. A whole hour was chopped off clone and boo. The portable drive was 3.0 and connected to the same port as SABRENT. It had no external power. My machine is a top of the range Dell with 12GB of RAM and an Intel I5 processor. So buy at your own risk. If you have the time and a mouse that doesn't do what mine did, you might have better luck. I'm sure the two 2TB WD portable drives I just ordered will work just fine. And they're not even autonomous.
