Now that my son is studying at home half the time I had a fairly modern Acer Chromebook for him, but since it is a small form factor laptop, it has no ports for external monitors, but it does have two USB-C ports. I've tested it with HDMI and VGA monitors, as well as a Windows laptop, and it's great in either configuration. A heads-up is nothing with this device, but the laptop itself. My Acer laptop has two USB-C ports, but it turns out that one of them is really only for (laptop) charging. I almost returned this device defective, but then I tried a different USB-C port and it works perfectly. Then I looked at the specs of this Acer Chromebook and one of the ports is really just for charging the laptop so it was user error and not a problem with this device. So if yours isn't working and you have two USB-C ports, try a different port! For our needs this was perfect - it allowed my son to use a tiny Chromebook with an external monitor and me the additional use of an old VGA-only monitor. It does what it's supposed to and at a great price.
