Review on GEARWRENCH 7 Pc. Hook & Pick Set - 84000H by Dee Parson

We’ve all been there: unexpected glue squeeze out down in a deep corner, small screws dropped inside electronics, hot solder to scrape at, seams to pry and prod, a quick scratch awl, those annoying modem/router reset buttons you’ve been using a paper clip for. And I’ll throw in some particular cases of my own: violin sound posts and guitar picks to stab in place as you work them out of instrument bodies.My go-to "something” for years has been a set of small chrome prod/pokers – the ones with the weird rounded hex nuts on the end that keep them from rolling away. The tips are all badly nicked, bent, partially cracked off, only to be rebent and refiled into whatever shapes I can manage.This Gearwrench set is a welcome upgrade in ease of use and effectiveness.I like the feel of the handles: matte, hard-ish rubber grip areas over solid matte plastic - gives a good grip even with sweaty/wet hands.One concern I had with the handles is whether I’d be able to grip the tools like a pen – as I do more times than not with my current set. The answer is yes, at least for the smaller four pieces. The narrow handle fluting is larger than my old tools but comfortable between thumb and forefinger with good control of the tip.The diameters of the steel rods on the smaller tools are about 3.5mm, compared to my old set at 2mm. I supposed if you’re doing really close precise work that could be a factor, but it’s a non-issue for me.The larger tools with round tips are a good 5mm – the straight one makes a fine marking awl (not to mention a serious ice pick!).If you’re not hanging them, I’d recommend a tool wrap or some kind of case to protect the tips.
