Review on πŸ’» High-Performance Intel Xeon E5520 Processor: 2.26 GHz, 8 MB Cache, Socket LGA1366 by Vinay Kedia ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I was surprised by the quality for this price.

I bought a used Xeon X5550 for 500 to replace my i7-920 with a broken memory controller, because of which neither the memory could work above the standard 1066 MHz processor, nor overclock the processor, or lower / increase the voltage on the core. I am completely satisfied with the processor, I took this particular model, because. slightly higher frequency in Turbo Boost compared to i7-920 and lower TDP, + the memory controller in the processor already supports 1333 MHz memory without overclocking. The processor showed itself perfectly, it really heats up a little less (but not much), the memory for 1333 started up by itself, as it should, it easily accelerates to 4 GHz. I am satisfied with the processor, those who have an LGA1366 board or can get it for a cheap price (up to 4-5 thousand, there is no particular sense in more expensive) can safely take this processor for 500-700, a special "server" board is not needed for it, 1366 Xeons run smoothly on regular boards without problems (works for me on Asus P6T).

Pros
  • - Performance, 4 cores and 8 threads - Low price used processor - TDP less than i7-920 - Supports out of the box memory frequency of 1333 MHz - Easily runs on regular, non-server, LGA1366 motherboards - Easily overclocked to 4 GHz and beyond
Cons
  • - The motherboard is hard to find, and if found, it will be expensive in 99% of cases
