Review on TPI 605 Digital Accuracy Resolution by John Maynard

The gauge works well as it measures vacuum but as others have seen it leaks. I tested the device by connecting it to my vacuum pump with a short hose and ball valve. My vacuum pump is a 2 stage 12cfm pump, so I was able to lower the vacuum to less than 400 microns in under 30 seconds, then closed the ball valve (with the pump still running). ) and watched as the manometer began to rise and reached "----” within about 45 seconds. Wires coming out of the brass gauge "port". One set of cables exits at the side, the other at the back. These are the only possible places I can see where the unit could be leaking, and the factory applied some sort of clear sealant to where these wires are coming out of the brass. First I decided to add some clear gel super glue to each area where the wires came out of the brass and let it dry overnight. Then I reassembled it and tested again - it leaked even worse! The super glue must have somehow dissolved some of the factory sealant or something, so DO NOT use super glue to try to seal yours! I then tried a clear sealer like RTV (silicone) and let it dry for two days but it didn't work. either (maybe if I tried it first it might work). I can still use this because I have a powerful vacuum pump and for now I'm plugging the ball valve directly onto the gauge so I can isolate it before turning off the vacuum pump.
