So I've had several projectors over the years, mainly because their price-to-image-size ratio was much better than traditional TVs. This projector replaced an Optoma HD20 that had been sitting in my living room for 8 years with another dying lightbulb. I found this projector to be a lot louder than my Optoma. In fact, it was so loud that I downloaded a sound meter app to my phone just to see if it was up to spec. In economy mode, he worked at 36 dB. Interestingly, a professional review I read says that the fan noise decreases as the projector warms up a bit, but actually I found the opposite to be true. When the fans started kicking, the volume and delivery was about what I expected. However, when the laser finally started emitting light (when the color wheel started spinning I think) I noticed a much higher pitched tone above the fan noise, which I wasn't expecting. That high-pitched tone was still in the dB range, but was significantly more noticeable when watching content. The term is technically correct, but incredibly misleading. My definition of Instant On: as soon as I press the power button, the projector instantly produces a full bright image. Instead, the projector takes about 10 seconds to warm up the fans, and then the projector instantly produces a fully lit image. Given the way it was advertised, I expected it to be one of the main features of the laser projector, but alas, it was just rubbish. I agree that the projector produces a fully lit image much faster than a traditional incandescent projector, but that's a far cry from what a TV does. Color tones also change drastically when switching from "Normal" to "Eco" mode. . Colors seem more accurate in Normal mode and to be honest the Eco doesn't darken the image much, I'd say around 20% less brightness than Normal mode. Finally, the menu seems really strange. You don't actually access the color controls in the traditional menu, you have to access them with the buttons on the remote, which I find pretty silly. Overall I'm happy with the price of this device, but it doesn't really reflect some of the main reasons I bought it. I think I should have waited another 3-4 years for the laser to become more popular. To be honest it was hard enough waiting for the first 3-4 for the laser to hit that price point in the consumer space, well. live and learn
