They're not very wide so not much surface area to snag on the wall but they work well. The gate hasn't fallen down in months since I installed it with these wall brackets. The biggest minus for me is that I bought them so as not to screw things into the upholstery of the doorway. I removed the gate for a family gathering a week or two ago and the painted trim was ruined where the wall panels were. The fairing was painted over a year ago so it's not fresh paint or anything. In general I think it's better to lightly sand those few spots and touch up the paint than to fill the screw holes and touch up the paint. .
