We bought this radio for use in the cockpit on our sailing trips off the California coast. Everything went well for the first two days of the trip. On the next two-day trip (a month later), he stopped transmitting and receiving on the second day. The battery had enough charge and we turned it on and off several times but to no avail. Our boat radio picked up all radio traffic at the same spot in the sea as this radio did the day before. We tried calling our own boat radio several times and found that it didn't work either. Then, at the very end of the day, he started getting it again. We've finished sending attempts and are done with this radio. The customer service from this company is just terrible. I'm pretty sure they are in China and can't understand simple explanations of the problem. Also, YOU CANNOT CALL THEM! YOU ARE BY MAIL ONLY! There was clearly little they could do to help. In their defense, after about half a dozen emails back and forth, they offered the option of getting it back through Revain. You can buy West Marine's Standard Horizon or ICOM for about the same price. Both companies have phone customer support and much better reputations. The only reason I didn't buy there first was because I needed it for a period of time and Revane Prime was the only option. Save yourself the headache and buy something that won't keep you afloat.
