I bought this wireless charger to reduce wear on the plug connectors on our Note 8 phones. I took it out of the box, put it in my pocket and put my phone on it. "Fast charge" started immediately. My phone has a fairly minimalist bump case. My wife's Note 8, on the other hand, is in her wallet. I wouldn't be surprised if I had to take her phone out of the case to charge it wirelessly. It was NOT like that. Your phone was "fast charged” just as easily and quickly as mine. I specifically bought this particular phone (there are other, cheaper chargers on the market) because (a) it came with a wall charger - many others, if you read the fine print, don't include a charger, (b) have two charging coils and ; (c) Charging output 5V, 2A - "works". And aesthetically, the charging station is sleek and modern with a subtle charging status indicator. I definitely recommend this device.
