Well I worked at Ford for 22 years as an ase. My old Ford Ranger has done 331,000 miles and the ring and gear failed. I have previously installed 3.73 USA Gear for a customer and had no problems other than spending 2 days repairing paint wear. I had to grind my washers. I ordered 4:56 for a bit more torque for my 4 cylinder manual transmission to get the boat off the ramps. All installed well but I had to preheat the ring to expand it a bit to get on the spool. The problem I have is that in this particular set (4:56) the teeth cover half of the hole. There is no transverse pin with the correct knurling on the movement carrier for this ring. I was able to get it to work by fitting the gear teeth into the hole and also removing 1/8" from the original knurled cross pin. Removing too much stock from a ring or cross pin will result in failure. The truck drives great with a 4 cylinder manual transmission and 4:56 the truck goes about 75 at 3000 rpm but at 65 I have 2000 rpm in overdrive will I do it again Most likely not too much play and adjustments to this one Set along with modifications. Also I'm still concerned about my c-clips slipping out after the 1/16 razor pin. It's unlikely but as a Ford Tech employee I wouldn't do that to a customer's car.
