They really work
Most tape dispensers these days don't have a blade sharp enough to cut the tape, so I usually resort to scissors, which stick together fairly quickly. I've used them to cut 3/8" strapping (cheap, cheap stuff that sticks blades really quickly) to secure book covers in our library and the scissors stayed clean and sharp even after using them for 100 books had used.
