Ever since we moved to the US I've been looking for ways to help my four year old learn about the local culture. This puzzle was a very good choice. The puzzle is well assembled in light wood and has the names of all states on the puzzle pieces. After removing the shapes, you can see the capital city names underneath. The puzzle is very simple because the pieces have different colors, and the drawing on the board after removing the pieces has the same colors. So if the state is red, all my son has to do is look at the red "shadows" to see which ones are the same shape. I think this is good as it allows younger kids to solve it. The pieces fit together well, maybe a little tight when putting the puzzle together, but my son has no problem with that. My only complaint is that the lines with some states' names (New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island) don't match the pieces, but that's a small problem in a big puzzle. And my son loves putting together parts of states we have already visited! In addition to the puzzle, we gave him this book: The 50 States of America, with interesting facts about each state.
