As a parent, you are busy. There's no need to worry about a water bottle leaking or having to screw the cap on and off more than once because a straw doesn't work. The straws go straight into the recess below. You can't suck water through a straw when that's it. It might seem like a small thing, but it annoys me that I have to twist the straw in a different direction every time I put on a nozzle, and sometimes I still have to do it more than once. They lick when knocked over. Not impressed. I've had the same Contigo water bottles for my kids (who are strict with them) for 4 years and they work great.
