Review on πŸ“€ Verbatim 700MB CD-R: High Capacity Recordable Disc for Long Playtime by Kyle Rock

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very thin! Standard CDs are 1.20mm thick. They are 1.10mm thick and will not work.

I used to have bad luck with Verbatim CDr. But I decided to give it another try because of the low price. Unfortunately, this is another spindle from Verbatim. The first 3 above did not burn. Update: The whole spindle is now in the trash. It took me months to try and sometimes I managed to burn one of them. But they won't play properly. I recently bought half a spindle of old Goodwill Memorex CDs. I cleaned up the sticky stuff, threw away the hopelessly sticky stuff, and threw out some of the kids' movies. But ALL others worked perfectly. When trying to figure out why Verbatim CDs aren't working, I noticed that they seem weak. So I checked their sizes. Naturally. My digital calipers show that all Verbatim CDs are only 1.1mm thick. Standard CDs should be 1.2 mm thick. Looks. The data on a CD doesn't lie on the surface (which is why it can withstand a surprising number of surface scratches). The lasers that write and read data from CDs are focused to a specific depth in transparent plastic. If the disc is the wrong thickness, the laser will write data at the wrong depth. If you insert a CD into another device, it will be difficult for the laser to find and read the data. This is a waste of time and money. Verbatim should be ashamed of selling inferior junk! And Revain should stop selling it.
