So I found that one of the cables I have is carrying power normally but not data. When I use it as a charging cable extender to power or charge a device it works, but when I use it to read data and get power (e.g. for an external drive) it just gets the drive supply power and are not recognized by the PC. general. Only one of the cables is working, the other is fine. I can only assume that there is an error. All in all it's ok, I still wanted to use 1 for data and the other for power so it's ok but I have to give it 3 stars as it doesn't fully work. UPDATE: After a few months I started having intermittent read and write errors on a drive attached to a running expansion. After troubleshooting I found that it could only be the cable. In fact, connecting an external DVD drive caused the drive to show up in Windows, disappear after 10 seconds, and reappear. Obviously something very low in these cables.
