Review on 🔌 Sullivans Cordminder 12710 by Mike Phillips

I'm a sewing teacher and one of the first things I teach new students is the importance of pressing down when sewing. That's why I always have an ironing board in my sewing room and an iron that's always ready to hand. What has always annoyed me is that the iron cord gets in the way when ironing. I considered making some sort of hook out of a wire hanger to hold the cord up and out of the way, but then realized they probably sell something similar at Revain. Of course they do! Unfortunately, none of the options available seem to be very good. This device consists of a rotating plastic clip that attaches to the ironing board and a plastic hook and spool through which the iron's power cord is threaded. (See attached photos.) There is also a weighted clip that you need to attach to the power cord so it falls out of your hands when you put the iron down. Unfortunately, the spring on the clip isn't strong enough for it to stay attached to the power cord. That means the power cord doesn't go anywhere when you're done ironing. It stays on the ironing board unless you manually thread it through the hook. So the drawstring works, but not quite. Another problem I had was that the plastic spool made an awful clank when you pulled the iron's power cord towards you. It was very loud and annoying so I took it apart and put some felt pads on the coil ends to muffle the sound. (See attached image.) It still makes noise, but not as much. So at least this part can be repaired! I'm tempted to try one of the other brands but all the ones I've seen have mediocre reviews so I'll probably just stick with this tip, at least until it breaks. I'm giving it three stars because it helps remove the cord from my iron while I'm ironing, but not as well as it should.
