I bought this for my hedgehog because hedgehogs need constant warmth to stay alive. It started to run erratically and dropped to 70 when set to 78. I bought another one thinking it might be a bad unit. It dropped to 66 degrees and MY hedgehog ALMOST DIED. (Luckily I spotted her cold little self in time - she was so cold she couldn't roll over). never again for me
