With all the comments about not having a dog I was a little skeptical but at $16.48 even without a dog I would think that's a lot. She had a dog when mine arrived and it appeared to be a newer model (although she still had the same model number 38-736) as stated on the box 6 1/2" instead of 6" and it was listed as 6 Inches measured 1/2" (6 1/2" in product specifications). Some cleaning was required to remove the oil from the bars. Runs smoothly even after an oil change. If I ever have a problem I just apply some wax instead of oil. The pawl was a bit rusty and I'm not sure it will be useful unless your bench is only about 2 1/4" thick which is the measurement from the base mounting surface to the top of the vise. While they say it mounts to the front of your bench and there are 2 countersunk holes on the back, there are also 4 countersunk holes on the base mounting surface for floor mounting. As mentioned, these mounting holes are small (a 3/16" Drill fits in easily and has room to maneuver.) My front had 2 threaded holes for attaching the jaw and the back had 2 unthreaded holes for this purpose. The metal vise handle has the handy feature of a thick rubber O-ring on each End that can be moved to hold the handle in any position.
