I bought a house with aluminum wiring. The previous owner had an electrician go through the house and made copper braids out of these wire nuts. 15 years later I had several mishaps with these nuts. In any circuit with a constant high current (toaster, washing machine, refrigerator, heater) these nuts get hot and melt. You will find them melting, or you will smell them, or the circuit breaker will trip. The wall panel my fridge was sitting on got hot. Luckily I've never had a fire, but melt damage can get expensive if you have to restart your Romex because of melted wires. Consider AlumiConnas as an alternative. I've only been using them for a few years, no problems so far, but ask me again in 15 years.
