I bought a house with aluminum wiring. The previous owner had an electrician go through the house and made copper braids out of these wire nuts. 15 years later I had several mishaps with these nuts. In any circuit with a constant high current (toaster, washing machine, refrigerator, heater) these nuts get hot and melt.
