This stand is not as strong as I expected. It bends in the middle with any weight on it. I think it's meant to be used exactly as shown in the picture; only for writing letters and the like. If your knees don't support it in the middle, you'll need a thick pillow underneath if you're going to rest a laptop or anything more than the weight of paper. Also, be sure to measure the armrests of the chair you intend to use. You'll need at least 10 inches from your stomach to the end of your arm to support both sides of the board.
