The wood is large and seems very strong. It obviously doesn't sink immediately. Note, however, that this will take MUCH longer than a few hours or days. We started soaking it in boiling water for an hour, then switched to cold water for a couple of hours. After being added to a new 20-gallon tank with nothing else in it, the wood continued to seep into the water for over a week, staining the entire tank brown. We removed it and continued to soak separately. It also took about 10 days to fully sink.
